THAT Girl Eversince

From the hustle and bustle of Baclaran to Makati crosswalks, Mimiyuuuh indeed evolved into “that girl” she knew she was destined to be. But it’s not just her lifestyle that shifted, the comment section did too.

A now growing chorus of “yumaman lang, nagbago na.”

All of a sudden, the internet decided that she’s no longer “one of us.” This critique reveals how bitter our digital culture really is. We love a glow up, not until we can’t catch up.

We boxed her in a reliability contract she never signed up for.

Let’s take a quick detour back to 2019

Her vlogs never gave off “poverty-core”, it was always high-fashion fantasy on a budget. Mimiyuuuh saw the sidewalk as her very own runway.

The girl already existed back then, she just didn’t have the lighting or the square footage yet.

Fast forward to today

This lifestyle shift isn’t a ‘Sudden Change’, but a ‘Delayed Arrival’.

She didn’t just wake up and decide to be bougie; Every viral ‘Luckystar’ dance and her constant reminder to drink your water has contributed in achieving the life she always dreamed of.

Crab Mentality didn’t even try to spare Mimiyuuuh.

In our culture, we tend to paint this toxic mindset as a critique of authenticity. We’ve conditioned ourselves to believe that when a creator leaves a struggle behind, they’ve left us alongside it too.

Truth be told, she didn’t leave us, she just arrived at a destination she’s been pointing at since 2019 that we were unable to locate ourselves.

Why not assess how we fear the growth of others rather than demand Mimiyuuuh to stay relatable?

Because she’s more relatable now than ever—as the girl who made it out of the neighborhood— the ultimate Filipino Dream.

She never lost herself, she just found the resources to be THAT girl she long envisioned.

As the saying goes:

“You can take the girl out of Baclaran, but you can’t take Baclaran out of the girl”

Because while she may now be a Salcedo Girl by address, yet the hustle, humor, and heart will always remain Baclaran coded.
