United States (US) President Donald Trump signed an interim memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Iran, extending a ceasefire between the countries on Wednesday, June 17 in the Palace of Versailles.
“It’s signed,” Trump confirmed as he left the palace after attending a dinner hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Esmaeil Baghaei, Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, said that the agreement was signed by both Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also confirmed the signing in a post that the agreement had entered into force with immediate effect after both parties signed it.
“The signing of this agreement at the highest level of the respective governments demonstrates the commitment of both sides to a diplomatic resolution of the conflict,” Sharif wrote.
The MoU, which includes 14 points, mandates the US and Iran to end military forces on all fronts and pledges the US and Iran to 60 days of ceasefire.
Additionally, it states that Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days, and the United States would lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports within the same time frame.
The memorandum says the US waives sanctions to allow Iran to export oil while negotiations are underway and undertakes with allies to create a $300 billion rehabilitation fund for Iran.
